The soft pounding of rain on the roof to the barn echoed throughout the stalls. It was the only sound heard. All the horses were silent in anticipation. The stable hands stood in front of the very first stall. They held soft towels and rags along with other equipment. They stood guard over the stall, waiting and watching intently. They had been waiting for this day ever since Forget Me Not and Zeppelin were paired together. The two beautiful horses were a perfect match. There awe striking colors would make a unimaginably remarkable coat and the skills from the two would make perfect competing foal.

Loud snorting and grunting sounded within the stall. Sophia pawed at the fresh straw and snorted violently. It had already been a full 45 minutes and she still felt very little progress.

The cool air in the barn soothed her heated body and brought comfort as she felt the urge to push once more. Sophia laid back and took a deep breath. She tended her muscles and pushed with everything she had until she couldn't anymore.

She gasped for hair, panting in exhaustion and pain, wishing it would end.

The urge showed its ugly head again, this time, it was much more intense then before.

Sophia closed her eyes an sat up. She waited for the right moment then used all her energy to push. Pain overwhelmed her and she whinnied in pain, pushing even harder as she did so.

Then suddenly, the pain eased.

Sophia took a second to catch her breath then turned to look at the new sight.

Her eyes fell upon her new daughter who was lying in the soft hay. Her coat was still wet and her little chest rose as she took her first breaths of the sweet air.

Sophia wasted no time in cleaning the filly, starting with her little face.

The foal snorted as her mother licked her nostrils and blinked her eyes several times. She squealed in excitement as she sat up, her mother gently calling back. She helped the filly up onto her feet then watched as she wobbled around and toppled over.

The stable hands laughed lightly at the sight of the foal. They were all celebrating and rejoicing for the first birth at the stables. She would make everyone proud.

Sophia gently nuzzled her daughter as she learned how to suckle. She was content now. Her very first foal.

The stable hands argued over names as they watched filly gain her stability. After much arguing and debating, they all came to an agreement. The soft pattering of rain and the new found warmth in the air collided with their thoughts.

Her name would be April.
